Care Advice

Established in 1949, Bholasons Jewellers has consistently upheld the highest standards in design, materials, and craftsmanship. This dedication is the cornerstone of why Bholasons Jewellers' pieces are cherished and passed down for generations.

However, to transform jewellery into a beautiful heirloom, proper care is essential. Dust, pollution, and daily use can dull the surface and brilliance of gemstones and metals. Worn-out prongs or clasps may even lead to the loss of stones or an entire part of the jewellery. Some simple and basic care can help preserve and protect your Bholasons pieces for years to come.

  • Basic Jewellery Care

Regular professional cleanings are recommended, once a year if possible, depending on the frequency of usage. Bholasons' Customer Service Department and Sales professionals stand ready to assist you.

Our craftsmen possess extensive experience in all facets of jewellery care, ranging from identifying the best cleaning methods for stones, to re-stringing pearls and repairing clasps or prongs.

Along with professional cleanings, most jewellery can be maintained with a non-abrasive jewellery cleaner. For diamonds, a mild solution of six parts water to one part ammonia, applied with a soft bristle brush, is recommended. If worn regularly, pearls should be professionally cleaned and re-strung once a year. We do not recommend ultrasonic cleaning as it is not safe for most of the gemstones.

  • Additional Tips for Jewellery Care:

    1. Avoid exposing gold jewellery to household bleach, as it can quickly cause discolouration and potential disintegration.
    2. Proper storage is crucial. Store your Bholasons jewellery in a protective box, case, or tarnish-resistant pouch. Between uses, it's advisable to place your jewellery in its original casing or another suitably lined box or pouch.
    3. One week before your special occasions, examine the jewellery and bring to store for maintenance.
    4. Certain gemstones require special care. However, do not use ultrasonic cleaning.
    5. Keep jewellery away from perfumes and hairspray. Avoid extreme temperatures, chemical cleaning and tumble wash. Keep away from hard and abrasive surfaces.
    6. Take precautions to protect your jewellery from impact against hard surfaces and avoid contact with abrasive surfaces. Even diamonds can chip if struck with enough force or at a particular angle.
    7. Many stones, such as amethyst, emerald, kunzite, opal, pearl, peridot, tanzanite, and tourmaline, are delicate and easily abraded. Enamel can also chip or scratch upon impact. Please handle these with care.
